Welcome to the Helpful Honeybees Preschool Room
FOR CHILDREN 3 – 4 YEARS OLD
Our classroom has clearly defined, well-equipped interest areas arranged to promote independence, foster decision making, and encourage involvement. In our room we have 11 different learning centers available during the day: dramatic play, blocks, math, manipulatives, science and social studies, quiet area, listening station, writing, creative expression, literacy and music, and movement.
Understanding Your Child’s Development:
Preschoolers are enthusiastic learners who are inquisitive and curious, always wanting to know “why?” They are also more focused as learners, as they work to master the initiative stage of development. Children begin asserting control and power over the environment by taking initiative to plan activities, accomplish tasks and face challenges. During this stage, our teachers know how important it is to encourage exploration and to help children make appropriate choices. Teachers provide clear expectations, predictable routines and patient interactions with children to support their development.
Growing and Learning in the Honeybee Room:
In the Honeybee Room, we understand that a child’s natural method of learning is through play! Each day, we provide a balance of child-initiated and teacher-directed learning opportunities, while encouraging independent discovery so the children can explore their classroom, the materials, and the concepts in a way that makes the most sense to them – through play!
We work on problem solving skills by using toys and equipment like puzzles, and letter and number concept games (memory and match games). Cognitive development takes place in our learning centers throughout the room and on field trips. We offer both large and small group activities which include social studies, math, science experiments, stories, music, nature, letters, numbers, shapes, word recognition, printing, phonics, functions of the human body, and safety. Creative expression is encouraged through a wide range of art activities including process and product art. We also use creative expression in dramatic play, problem solving activities, music, building with blocks and other manipulatives, puppet play, and story telling.
Teachers support children’s social and emotional development by using a lot of positive verbal communication and open-ended questions to model and coach appropriate skills. The social skills your child will be working on include: playing cooperatively with others, making and maintaining friendships, following and understanding directions, utilizing words to solve conflicts, using table manners, and respecting the property and rights of others.
Children are given many opportunities to practice important skills within a loving, safe environment so they will feel confident and excited about moving into the kindergarten readiness room!
